Madonna

Madonna (b. 1958, Bay City, Michigan) is an American pop musician and performer whose career since the early 1980s has made her the most commercially successful and culturally significant female figure in global pop music. Born Madonna Louise Ciccone, she moved to New York in 1978 to pursue a dance career before pivoting to music, recording her debut album Madonna (1983) for Sire Records.

Her subsequent string of albums — including Like a Virgin (1984), True Blue (1986), Like a Prayer (1989), Erotica (1992), and Ray of Light (1998) — combined pop craftsmanship with provocative imagery and constant reinvention.
