Mad Professor
Mad Professor is the performing name of Neil Fraser, a British dub producer born in Georgetown, Guyana, in 1955 and raised in London from age thirteen. In 1979 he built Ariwa Sounds, a four-track studio in his front room in Thornton Heath, later growing it into one of Britain's key reggae studios and labels. A disciple of Lee "Scratch" Perry, he became a leading dub producer, steering the genre through its 1980s digital shift via the long-running Dub Me Crazy series. His desk work extends into remixes for Massive Attack, Sade, and the Orb, treating tape echo and reverb as compositional tools rather than effects.
