Lydia Kavina

Lydia Kavina (born 1967) is a Russian thereminist and composer, the great-great-niece of Lev Theremin and one of the instrument's most accomplished living practitioners. She began studying with Theremin himself as a child and has since developed a technical and musical command widely regarded as among the finest in the world. She has performed with orchestras internationally, championing both the theremin repertoire and new commissions, and has worked as a consultant and performer on numerous film soundtracks. Her recordings for Decca and other labels document a practice that honours the instrument's history while expanding its contemporary possibilities.
