Lucas "Granpa" Abela
Lucas Abela, known as Granpa, is a Sydney-born noise artist and instrument-builder who has spent three decades turning junk, glass and household objects into sound. Under the alias Justice Yeldham he plays a pane of window glass wired with contact microphones, biting and cracking it against his face until it bleeds. Solo, he performs with turntables, a jaffle iron, a wine glass or a car door, treating found materials as raw circuitry for feedback and rupture. He co-founded the label Dual Plover in 1995 and directs the touring What Is Music? festival, championing experimental and improvised practice across Australia and internationally.
