Louise Landes

Born in New York in 1944, she grew up in a multilingual household and studied Indian classical music at Mills College with sarangi master Pandit Ram Narayan before traveling alone through Turkey, Iran, Afghanistan and Pakistan to reach northern India. A founding member of Daniel Moore's Floating Lotus Magic Opera Company alongside Terry Riley and Angus Maclise, she has published poetry and translations from the French — including works by Henri Michaux and René Daumal — and from the Middle Hindi, among them the love poems of Mirabai.
