Los Crudos
Los Crudos were a Chicago-based Latino hardcore punk band active between 1991 and 1999, widely regarded as one of the most politically committed and culturally significant bands in American hardcore. Singing entirely in Spanish, they addressed immigration, racism, poverty, and political violence with a directness rarely found in English-language hardcore. Their releases on Lengua Armada and No Idea Records, and extensive touring through mainstream and underground circuits, built a community around punk and Latino identity that influenced later generations. Vocalist Martín Sorrondeguy went on to front the queercore band Limp Wrist, extending this confrontational politics into new territory.
