Lia Kohl
Lia Kohl is a cellist, composer and sound artist based in Chicago, born in New York and raised in San Francisco. Coming from a musical family, she began cello in third grade and trained classically at Indiana University before relocating to Chicago in 2013, where improvisation and cross-disciplinary collaboration reshaped her practice. Her compositions fold in radio static, tornado sirens, turn signals and self-checkout beeps, treating mundane, overlooked sounds as material for the profound. She has released six solo albums and thirteen collaborative ones, working closely with Whitney Johnson and Macie Stewart, and has toured across Mexico, France, Germany, Denmark and China.
