Leafcutter John

Leafcutter John is the alias of John Burton, a British musician and software developer based in London. Releasing on Planet Mu in the 2000s, he developed a delicate electroacoustic sound built on laptop processing, acoustic guitar, piano, and found sounds — music of extreme sensitivity and textural inventiveness. Albums The Forest and the Sea (2003) and Resurrection Sound System (2006) were critically noted for their originality and emotional warmth. He also developed his own software instrument Côte, which allows physical gesture to control sound. His practice bridges the worlds of software development, acoustic performance, and studio composition.
