Lawrence English
Born in Brisbane in 1976, he is a composer, curator, and the founder of Room40, the Brisbane-based label he established in 2000, through which he has released more than two hundred titles spanning drone, field recording, and electroacoustic music. His own compositions treat extended duration and environmental forces as primary materials, and his field recording work has taken him as far as Antarctica to capture the sounds of rare conditions. He has collaborated with artists including Grouper, Ben Frost, and Francisco López. His curatorial and compositional output has been central to establishing a sustained international context for experimental sound in Australia.
