Lawrence Abu Hamdan

British-Lebanese artist born in 1985, he holds a doctorate from the University of London on sound's role in legal investigation and calls himself a Private Ear. His practice uses audio forensics—speech analysis, audio ballistics, acoustic reconstruction—to document human rights violations. He contributed audio-ballistic analysis in the 2014 killing of two Palestinian teenagers in the West Bank and built an acoustic record of the Saydnaya military prison in Syria. He won the Turner Prize in 2019 jointly with Helen Cammock, Oscar Murillo, and Tai Shani, and in 2023 founded Earshot, the first body dedicated to deploying sound in defence of human and environmental rights.
