Lamin Fofana

Lamin Fofana spent his early childhood in Freetown, Sierra Leone, until civil war forced his family to Guinea; as a teenager he relocated to the US, splitting time between Harlem and Alexandria, Virginia. Since his 2010 debut EP What Elijah Said, he has built a body of instrumental electronic, ambient and techno work preoccupied with displacement, migration and Black diasporic memory. He founded the label Sci-Fi & Fantasy in 2012 and Black Studies in 2019, launched with a trilogy, Black Metamorphosis, Darkwater and Blues, drawing on Sylvia Wynter and W.E.B. Du Bois. His sound works and installations have appeared at the Venice Biennale, Akademie Schloss Solitude and the Liverpool Biennial.
