Kode9 & The Space Ape

Kode9 is the alias of Steve Goodman, a Scottish theorist, DJ, and producer based in London and founder of Hyperdub Records. The Space Ape (Stephen Samuel Gordon, 1972–2014) was a poet and MC whose deep, unhurried vocal delivery was the lyrical voice of Kode9's productions. Together they released Memories of the Future (2006) and Black Sun (2012) — dense, futurist dubstep and grime productions building a sonic mythology of urban alienation and science-fiction speculation. The Space Ape died of cancer in 2014. Goodman has continued as Kode9 and through Hyperdub, releasing and supporting music that has defined the post-dubstep experimental club landscape.
