Knud Viktor

Knud Viktor (1924–2017) was a Danish-French sound artist based in Provence whose field recordings — particularly of insects, birds, and the acoustic ecology of his surrounding landscape — produced one of the most extensive and technically innovative archives of natural sound. Working with homemade recording equipment from the 1960s, he created recordings of extraordinary intimacy, capturing the sounds of individual insects in minute detail. His work is among the most significant in the history of natural sound recording, anticipating acoustic ecology by decades.
