KMRU

KMRU is the project of Kenyan sound artist Joseph Kamaru (b. 1997), working between Nairobi and Berlin. His practice encompasses field recording, experimental electronics, and sound installation, engaging with the acoustic and social environments of Nairobi while drawing on international traditions of electroacoustic and acousmatic composition. His release Peel (2020) on Editions Mego brought his work to wide international attention, demonstrating an approach simultaneously empirical and emotionally resonant. Kamaru is also active as a curator and researcher developing platforms for experimental music in East Africa, working to diversify a field long dominated by European institutions.
