Kleenex

Kleenex, later renamed LiLiPUT, was a Swiss post-punk group formed in Zürich in 1978 whose recordings were foundational for female-fronted punk and post-punk internationally. Consisting entirely of women — Marlene Marder, Klaudia Schifferle, Lislot Ha, Regula Sing, and Chrigle Frefel at various points — they developed a jagged, unpredictable approach to punk rock that incorporated elements of free jazz, reggae, and noise, and a vocal style that ranged from deadpan speech to uncontrolled expressiveness. Forced to change their name to LiLiPUT following a legal dispute with the Kimberly-Clark corporation, they continued to develop their practice across a series of records on Rough Trade.
