Kiluanji Kia Henda
Kiluanji Kia Henda is an Angolan artist born in 1979 in Luanda. Self-taught, he learned photography from his brothers and photojournalists Carlos Louzada and John Liebenberg, and now works between Luanda and Lisbon. Moving across photography, installation and performance, he interweaves documentary fact with storytelling and dry humor to probe colonial legacy, war and African modernism. For Homem Novo he staged live performances atop empty colonial-era plinths; his series Rusty Mirage, imagining a Luanda skyline built from oil-boom promises, entered Tate's collection. He won Angola's National Culture and Art Prize in 2012 and the Frieze Artist Award in 2017.
