Kevin Drumm

Born in 1970 in South Holland, Illinois, he moved to Chicago in 1991 and emerged from the city's improvised music scene as one of the foremost prepared guitar players of the 1990s, applying magnets, binder clips, chains, and a violin bow to the instrument. He later shifted to laptop and modular synthesizer, spanning harsh noise, drone, and near-silent ambient. His 2002 album Sheer Hellish Miasma on Mego drew unusual attention for a noise record, appearing in Pitchfork's year-end list. He has collaborated extensively with Jim O'Rourke, Mats Gustafsson, and Taku Sugimoto.
