Katharine Norman
Born in 1960, she studied at Bristol University and completed a PhD in composition at Princeton University under Paul Lansky. She held academic posts at Sheffield University and Goldsmiths, University of London, where she directed the electronic music studios until 2003, before moving to a small island off British Columbia to work as a freelance composer and writer. Her electroacoustic works draw on everyday recorded sound to create what she calls a poetry of ordinary life. In 1995 she won the Holst Award, and in 2012 her interactive sound-essay Window won the New Media Writing Prize.
