Kanta Horio
Born in 1978 in Hiroshima, he studied acoustic design at Kyushu Institute of Design, completing his graduate studies in 2004. Based in Tokyo, he creates performances and installations from physical phenomena including sound, light, magnetism, and mechanical movement, using electromagnets, motors, LEDs, and custom circuits to transfer energy between these elements. His self-built machines generate spontaneous interactions between objects, sound, and light. He has presented work internationally at Sonar Barcelona, Images Festival Toronto, and numerous Japanese institutions, and also develops electronic instruments combining user interface with physical vibration for commissioned projects.
