Jumana Manna

Jumana Manna is a Palestinian artist and filmmaker born in 1987 in Princeton, New Jersey, raised in Jerusalem, now based in Berlin. Trained at Jerusalem's Bezalel Academy, Oslo National Academy of the Arts and CalArts, she works through sculpture, film and writing, examining how colonial power inscribes itself on bodies, land and law through preservation in architecture, agriculture and heritage. Her film A Magical Substance Flows Into Me traces a 1930s ethnomusicological radio archive of Palestinian folk music; Foragers examines Israeli restrictions on Palestinian wild-plant gathering. She won the Ars Viva Prize in 2017 and exhibited at MoMA PS1 in 2022.
