Julien Desprez

Julien Desprez is a French experimental guitarist and performer based in Paris, born in 1984. Starting from jazz and rock, he radically reworks the electric guitar into an object as much physical as sonic, combining string manipulation, body slams on the instrument, and pedal work inspired by tap dance so sound and movement become inseparable. His breakthrough solo piece Acapulco Redux (2016) toured widely; he later made Agora and the dance-noise collaboration Coco. He co-founded the Paris cooperative Collectif Coax in 2008 and has worked with Eve Risser, Charlie Haden, Jeanne Added, Noel Akchote and Tortoise, and performed in the trio In Bed With with Sylvain Darrifourcq and Kit Downes.
