Julia Calfee

American multimedia artist, photographer, writer, and animator who studied journalism at NYU and art history at the Sorbonne in Paris, and has spent much of her career living and working in Europe and Asia. Her practice investigates what she calls the augmented realities of disappearing worlds, using photography, video, audio, and writing. Her 2016 book A Glacier's Requiem was published with an accompanying vinyl record of recordings of melting glaciers. From 2003 to 2008 she documented life at New York's Hotel Chelsea, and her book Spirits and Ghosts: Journeys through Mongolia was published by powerHouse Books in 2003.
