Juan Blanco
Born in Mariel on 29 June 1919 and dying in Havana on 5 November 2008, he was the first Cuban composer to work with electroacoustics, spatial music, and multimedia. He composed approximately one hundred electroacoustic pieces for tape and mixed forces. In 1979 he founded the Taller de Investigación de Música Electroacústica (TIME), which became the Laboratorio Nacional de Música Electroacústica (LNME) in 1990, creating lasting institutional foundations for electroacoustic composition in Cuba and training generations of Cuban composers in experimental technique.
