Jorge Reyes
Mexican ambient electronic musician (24 September 1952 – 7 February 2009) who combined pre-Columbian flutes, percussion, and indigenous instruments with synthesisers to create works of ritualistic intensity rooted in his native culture. His catalogue spans some twenty original albums, with highlights including Comala (1986) and the four-volume Prehispanic Music series, later compiled on a 3CD set in 2005. He collaborated with American synthesist Steve Roach, Spanish guitarist Suso Saiz, and French duo Deep Forest, establishing his work at the intersection of ethnographic sound and electronic composition.
