John Wall

Born in 1950, this English composer is based in London and entirely self-taught. He began working with a Casio FZ-1 sampler in the late 1980s, developing a method of assembling thousands of micro-fragments drawn from classical music, heavy metal, and free improvisation into dense, abstract compositions. Critics have noted his extraordinary feeling for musical narrative and his phenomenally painstaking working methods. He has collaborated extensively with double bassist John Edwards and percussionist Mark Sanders, documented on their 2017 trio album fgbh.
