John Duncan

Born in 1953 in Wichita, Kansas, he grew up in Los Angeles before relocating to Tokyo in 1982 and eventually settling in Bologna, Italy. His practice spans performance, installation, pirate radio, and recorded sound, and has consistently pushed into confrontational territory since the 1970s. His 1984 LP Riot remains a landmark of extreme music and musique concrète. In Tokyo he ran illegal rooftop pirate broadcasts and collaborated with Keiji Haino and Masami Akita. His work has been released on Touch, Sub Rosa, and Ash International, among others.
