Johannes Klever

Johannes M.D.N.R. Klever is a Berlin-based performance artist who studied Fine Art at the Universität der Künste Berlin under Thomas Zipp and was a fellow of the Studienstiftung des Deutschen Volkes. He treats art institutions and public spaces as material and stage, staging unannounced interventions using constructed body devices worn beneath his clothing that let him burn, inflate, leak, or otherwise transform before unsuspecting audiences. Documented afterward through photography and video, his actions have surfaced at the Venice Biennale, Art Basel, documenta fifteen, and Tate Modern, performed with deadpan composure so the spectacular reads as unremarkable.
