Joana de Sá

Joana de Sá is a Portuguese audiovisual artist, born in 2001 in Mortágua, working across analog photography, drawing, illustration and experimental electronic music. Using field recordings, voice, guitar and synthesizer, she builds looped, textural pieces attentive to acoustic phenomena and duration, folding everyday environmental sound into electroacoustic improvisation. Her debut album Shatter (2022, Sirr-ecords), made from guitar and synth loops absorbed from half-remembered songs, channels a need to escape circumstances imposed by her environment. She followed it with Lightwaves (2023), also on Sirr-ecords, continuing her drone and musique concrète explorations.
