Jlin

Jlin is the alias of Jerrilynn Patton, an electronic producer born in Gary, Indiana, in 1987, who worked at a steel mill while developing her sound. Emerging from Chicago's footwork and juke scene, she gained attention with 2011's "Erotic Heat" on Planet Mu's Bangs & Works Vol. 2 compilation, before her 2015 debut album Dark Energy helped carry footwork's percussive, rhythmically fractured language to a global audience. Its follow-up Black Origami (2017) deepened her polyrhythmic, percussion-driven style, and 2024's Akoma, featuring Björk, Philip Glass and Kronos Quartet, expanded her music into orchestral and collaborative territory while retaining its rigorous, physical intensity.
