Jin Sangtae

Born in Seoul in 1975, he began making music with the electronica project popmusic25 in 1999 before encountering improvised music in 2004 and changing direction. He developed his signature practice working at a South Korean technology market: extracting harsh noise, glitches, and mechanical clatter from exposed hard disk drives, controlling pitch with a stylus. In 2008, inspired by Otomo Yoshihide's Tokyo space GRID605, he founded dotolim, the first dedicated venue for improvised and experimental music in Korea. Since 2015 he has uploaded a one-minute mobile recording daily as the ongoing project Year.
