Jens Brand

Born in 1968 in Dortmund, he studied visual arts in Münster and lives and works as a composer, musician, and audiovisual artist in Cologne, where he has been a professor at the Kunsthochschule Kassel since 2013. His interest in experimental music and concept art was shaped by Phill Niblock and performances at Het Apollohuis in Eindhoven. He founded mex e.V. in 1992 with Waldo Riedl to promote cross-media and experimental music. His installation G-Player (2004), Small World Machine (2011), and drone installation TETRAKTYS, featuring four automated aerial drones referencing the Music of the Spheres, are among his best-known works. He received a Villa Aurora grant in 2003.
