Jean-Claude Eloy
Jean-Claude Eloy (b. 1938, Mont-Saint-Aignan) is a French composer whose work combines Western contemporary composition with the influence of Japanese, Chinese, and Indian musical cultures. A student of Nadia Boulanger and Pierre Boulez, he moved progressively toward long-form works that draw on Asian ritual and contemplative practices. Shânti (1973) for electronics and voices is a four-hour work of extraordinary meditative intensity. He has worked extensively in Japan and has presented major works at IRCAM and international new music festivals.
