Jana Winderen
Born in 1965 in Norway, she studied mathematics, chemistry, and fish ecology at the University of Oslo before completing a fine art degree at Goldsmiths, University of London. Since 1992 sound has been at the core of her practice; she began using hydrophones to make underwater recordings in 2005, capturing audio environments in frequency ranges inaudible to humans. In 2011 she won the Golden Nica at Ars Electronica for Digital Musics and Sound Art. Her large-scale immersive installations have been presented at MoMA New York, the Natural History Museum London, and the Venice Architecture Biennale.
