Jacob Ullmann

Jacob Ullmann (b. 1958) is a German composer whose work — often for solo instruments in combination with subtle electronic processing — explores extreme quietness, duration, and the limits of perceptibility. His pieces require exceptional listening conditions and concentration; sounds are often so quiet as to blur the boundaries between music and ambient noise. He has released on Edition Wandelweiser and is associated with the Wandelweiser group's investigations of silence and extreme dynamics. His compositions are among the most demanding and rewarding in contemporary experimental music.
