Jacob Kirkegaard

Born in 1975 in Esbjerg, Denmark, he studied at the Academy for Media Arts in Cologne and has spent decades exploring resonance, hearing, and acoustic phenomena that ordinarily remain imperceptible. His most celebrated work, 4 Rooms, was recorded inside four abandoned buildings within Chernobyl's exclusion zone in 2005 and released on Touch Records on the twentieth anniversary of the disaster. By playing back ambient sound into each space and re-recording it repeatedly, he built dynamic drones from silence itself. His installations and performances have been presented at MoMA New York, the Menil Collection, and the Mori Art Museum Tokyo.
