Ivan Abreu

Born in Havana in 1967 and a naturalised Mexican citizen, Iván Abreu works across drawing, photography, electronics, software, sound, and industrial design from his base in Mexico City. His practice is built around what he calls the poetics of demonstration — artistic gestures that make visible a hypothesis about physical, social, or political phenomena. He received a Prix Ars Electronica award in 2012 and the CINTAS Foundation Award in Visual Arts in 2011–2012. His work is held in public and private collections including FEMSA and the Museo Extremeño e Iberoamericano de Arte Contemporáneo, and has been supported by FONCA's National System of Art Creators.
