Inner City
Inner City is the vocal house project formed in 1987 by Detroit techno producer Kevin Saunderson and singer Paris Grey. Their debut single Big Fun, released via Saunderson's KMS Records and later Virgin/10 Records, paired lush, gospel-inflected vocals with driving Detroit machine rhythms into an international dance-pop hit. The follow-up Good Life pushed the formula further, crossing into UK and US charts and carrying Detroit techno's sound toward mainstream audiences. Across albums including Big Fun (1989) and Fire (1990), Inner City proved the city's stark, futurist machine music could also hold warmth and song. Grey remained Inner City's voice for decades of releases.
