Ilpo Väisänen

Ilpo Väisänen (born 1963) is a Finnish musician, one half of Pan Sonic alongside Mika Vainio. While Pan Sonic's stark electronic minimalism made them one of the most influential projects in industrial and experimental electronic music, Väisänen has also pursued a substantial solo practice under his own name. His solo work extends the Pan Sonic aesthetic into more organic and drone-oriented territory, incorporating acoustic instruments alongside electronics. He has collaborated widely in European experimental music and continues to release solo recordings and perform, maintaining the rigorous formal sensibility that characterised his work with Vainio.
