Illusion of Safety
Illusion of Safety is the long-running project of Chicago musician Dan Burke, active since 1983. Working in industrial music, dark ambient, noise, and drone, Burke has produced an enormous and varied output across cassette, vinyl, and digital formats on labels including Malignant, Sterile, and his own Trax imprint. His practice is characterised by a systematic and patient approach to sound construction — layering electronic and processed acoustic material into thick, slowly evolving environments — and has positioned him as one of the more consistent and underappreciated figures in American post-industrial music. He has collaborated with Muslimgauze, Pure, and others.
