Ilios

Working under the name Ilios since 1992, Athenian artist Dimitris Kariofillis has explored the extreme ends of the sound spectrum through electronics, field recordings, and custom synthesis rigs. His practice deliberately resists genre stability, shifting between orthodox silence and full-spectrum noise across more than 400 live performances in 35 countries. In 1997 he founded the Antifrost label in Barcelona, relocating it to Athens, where it has released more than 75 albums by artists including Francisco Lopez, Sachiko M, and Zbigniew Karkowski. Key recordings include Kenrimono, drawn from pachinko parlours in Japan, and the Symphonies for oscillators and internal combustion engines.
