Ilan Volkov
Born in Tel Aviv in 1976, Ilan Volkov is an Israeli conductor whose career has centred on fearless programming across the orchestral and experimental spectrum. He served as Principal Conductor of the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra from 2003, later becoming Creative Partner. In 2012 he launched the Tectonics festival, one of the most eclectic celebrations of new music in the world, presenting composers from electroacoustic, noise, and cross-disciplinary fields alongside standard repertoire. He has championed overlooked figures including George Lewis and Claude Vivier, and continues to collaborate with avant-garde musicians internationally.
