ICP Orchestra

The ICP (Instant Composers Pool) Orchestra is a Dutch jazz and improvisation ensemble founded in Amsterdam in 1967 by Misha Mengelberg, Han Bennink, and Willem Breuker. Following Breuker's departure, Mengelberg and Bennink led the ensemble for decades, developing a collective approach to free jazz that incorporated elements of Dada, Dutch humour, cabaret, and classical European music alongside free improvisation. The ICP's work has been released extensively on their own ICP label, and includes long-running pieces alongside completely spontaneous collective music. The ensemble remains active following Mengelberg's death in 2017, continuing in the spirit of its founders.
