Hulubalang

Hulubalang is the solo project of Kasimyn (Aditya Surya Taruna), Indonesian producer and one half of the acclaimed gabber/hyperpop duo Gabber Modus Operandi, who contributed beats to Björk's 2022 album Fossora. The Hulubalang project debuted with the album Bunyi Bunyi Tumbal — meaning synthetic feeling for anonymous sacrifice — released on Drowned by Locals. The album addresses Dutch colonialism in Indonesia, drawing from war archives and traditional Indonesian rhythms, situating club music within a framework of historical memory and postcolonial reckoning.
