Honorio Quila

Honorio Quila is a Chilean poet and performer of canto a lo poeta, a form of sung poetry rooted in the rural traditions of Chile's Central Valley. Practised across all-night gatherings and religious festivals, canto a lo poeta combines guitar or guitarrón with improvised and traditional verses on divine and secular themes. Quila's work is documented on Canto a Lo Divino (Mississippi Records, 2023), a compilation capturing the sacred dimensions of this tradition as practised by a community of men and women in vocal exchange. His practice connects pre-Columbian, Spanish colonial, and contemporary Chilean folk traditions.
