Hifana

Hifana is a Japanese beat music duo comprising Kohei Ishikawa and Wataru Utagawa, based in Tokyo. Working with traditional Japanese instruments — particularly shamisen and taiko drums — processed through live electronics, turntables, and sampling, they developed a distinctive style bridging Japanese traditional music and contemporary electronic beat production. Their music is energetic and visually driven, with live performances characterised by physical theatricality, attracting international attention through festival appearances and television placement. They represent a current of Japanese electronic music that engages playfully with the country's own musical heritage.
