Henry Jacobs
Henry Jacobs (1924–2009) was an American sound artist, radio producer, and humourist based in San Francisco. Working at KPFA radio from the 1950s, he pioneered a form of comedic tape collage and musique concrète. His recordings for Vanguard Records combined wit with formal innovation. He collaborated with sculptor Wally Hedrick on the Vortex Concerts at the Morrison Planetarium in San Francisco — early examples of immersive audio-visual performance that influenced psychedelic culture. His work anticipates later developments in sampling, audio collage, and the aesthetics of found sound.
