Harun Farocki
Harun Farocki (1944–2014) was a German filmmaker and video artist who produced one of the most sustained investigations of images and their political economy in twentieth-century cinema. From his student film about napalm production, Inextinguishable Fire (1969) — in which he burned his own arm to illustrate the logic of industrial violence — to his late video installations about drone warfare and algorithmic surveillance, his work examined how images are made, deployed, and consumed in the service of power. Encompassing over a hundred films and installations, his practice moves between documentary, found footage, and direct address in a formal mode simultaneously analytical and poetic.
