Harley Gaber

Harley Gaber (1943–2016) was an American composer whose work in microtonality and sustained sound created a small but extraordinary body of recordings. His Winds Gaber (1977) became a touchstone for drone music and minimalism, and it remains one of the most extreme works in the tradition of sustained tonal focus. Working with just intonation and extremely slow compositional processes, he created music of meditative depth and sustained intensity. His commitment to the most reduced and patient forms of musical experience made him an important and insufficiently recognized figure in American drone music.
