Hannes Hoelzl

Born in Bolzano in 1974, Hoelzl studied audio engineering in Graz and music technology at the HKU in Utrecht, followed by a fellowship in Sound Arts at the Academy for Media Arts Cologne. His practice — most often realised as sound installations — is shaped by a sustained interest in language and the processes of translation between different symbolic systems, developed using the open-source programming language SuperCollider. Installations have been shown at the Venice Biennale for Architecture, Manifesta 7, and Transmediale. He has taught at IMM Düsseldorf and HfK Bremen and is currently assistant professor for Computational and Generative Arts at UdK Berlin.
