Guy Reibel
Guy Reibel (1936–2023) was a French composer of electroacoustic and choral music, and a long-standing member of the Groupe de Recherches Musicales (GRM) in Paris. A student of Olivier Messiaen and Pierre Schaeffer, he worked across musique concrète and choral composition, developing innovative techniques for working with voice both as a concrete sound material and as the vehicle for complex choral writing. His series Grains de la voix (1974) remains among the most significant works in French acousmatic music, exploring granular and microscopic vocal texture years before granular synthesis became a standard technique. He also developed extensive educational work in music creation.
